Holiday Return Policy For Items Purchased Online

Between October 9 and December 25, 2022, you can return purchases until February 3, 2023.

All purchases made after 12/26/2022 will be subject to our normal return policy.

You can return items bought online to any open T.J.Maxx store up to 40 days after the date of your order. You can also use our return-by-mail option to send back items you bought online.

Local, state, and federal laws always affect how we handle returns.

Our standard Return Policy applies to everything else.

Depending on the size and/or weight of the item, there may be a shipping surcharge on top of the normal delivery and processing costs for items that are too big. Shipping and handling costs, as well as shipping surcharges, cannot be refunded.

Not what you were looking for? Not a problem. Returns are free and easy in stores and by mail.

If you’re not happy with something you bought online, don’t be afraid to send it back within 40 days, unless the packing slip says otherwise.

Either your receipt or your shipping confirmation email will work for a return. Your receipt is the packing slip that comes with your order.

Check to see if the item you want to return is eligible for a return before you send it back. Some items may be final sale or subject to other return restrictions.

Also, make sure to read the terms for the way you want to send the item back (either by mail or in store).

Please keep in mind that you can only return items bought on Tjmaxx.com to a T.J. Maxx store or the T.J. Maxx online warehouse, as stated in their return policy. Items bought on TjMaxx.com can’t be returned to Marshalls or any of our other sister brands.

Returning By Mail

You can send a return by mail as long as it gets to our warehouse within 40 days of the date you placed your order. For a simple mail-in return, use the return shipping label on your receipt.

A $10.99 return shipping and handling fee will be deducted from your refund or store credit. Then, drop off your package at the shipping carrier listed on your return label.

Make sure your package has your receipt or a copy of your shipping confirmation email. If a return gets to the warehouse more than 40 days after the date of the original order, the customer will get a credit for the item.

You can bring your online purchase to a T.J.Maxx store near you to avoid paying for return shipping and handling.

Returning In Store

Store returns, which are also limited in the ways listed above, can be made within 40 days of the date of your order.

If you can return your purchase in a store, bring the item(s) and your receipt or shipping confirmation email to the Store Location nearest you.

For any return in store, you have to sign for it. If you don’t have a receipt, you’ll need a valid photo ID from the government, your name, address, and signature.

Issuance Of Refunds

All refunds will be given back to the original method of payment or in the form of a merchandise credit.

With a receipt, packing slip, or shipping confirmation email within 40 days of the date of your order, you can get your money back or a credit on your account.

A receipt, packing slip, or shipping confirmation email that is more than 40 days after the date of your order, you can get a credit for the item.

With a gift receipt, you can get credit for items.

If you don’t have a receipt, packing slip, or shipping confirmation email, you can get a credit for the merchandise.

When you return items that you bought with a T.J. Maxx Gift Card, you will get a merchandise credit. You can use this credit at any T.J.Maxx store.

Shipping and handling fees for returns are not refundable unless the item is broken.

In Store Issued Merchandise Credit Terms

Merchandise credits are subject to the Terms and Conditions that are printed on them and that the issuer puts in place, which may limit how they can be used.

For returns without receipts, you need a valid government-issued photo ID, your name, address, and signature. You may also need these things to use the credit for merchandise.

If a photo ID is shown, the name on the merchandise credit must match the name on the ID, or the merchandise credit cannot be used.

Refund Processing Time

If you send your return by mail, your account will usually be credited within 10 to 14 business days, depending on your bank and/or billing cycle, after we receive your qualifying tjmaxx.com return.

When we get back returns of eligible items, we’ll give merchandise credits.

When you return something in store, you’ll get a refund in the same way you paid for it or a store credit right away. Please keep in mind that it could take a few days for your bank to put the money back in your account.

PayPal Returns

In Store: If you bought something with PayPal and want to return it to a T.J.Maxx store, you will get a merchandise credit.

By Mail: If you return a PayPal purchase by mail, you will get a charge credit, less the $10.99 shipping and handling fee for the return.

Apple Pay® Returns

At the register, customers will need to show a receipt or email confirmation that shows Apple as a form of payment.

If the customer can’t give either, refunds should be done the way they are now.

The store employee will ask the customer if they still have the credit card they used with Apple Pay.

If the customer has the credit card that was used to pay with Apple Pay, the salesperson can put the money back on that card.

If the customer doesn’t have the credit card that was used for the Apple Pay purchase, the employee will do what they normally do and send the refund to any card.

Exceptions & Special Instructions

Used, worn, or broken items that can’t be sold won’t be accepted for a refund or merchandise credit.

The official line from TJ Maxx is, “Please keep your receipt so that your return is faster and easier.”

But you don’t have to have the receipt in order to return something. Most of the time, if you don’t have your receipt, they’ll be happy to give you store credit.

Without a receipt, you’ll need a government-issued photo ID, your name, signature, and address to make a return.

They need this information to keep track of your returns and make sure you don’t break their rules about returns.

Even though they don’t have an official policy about how many “no-receipt returns” you can make, it’s safe to assume that a few a month will get their attention, and they could stop you from returning items for a certain amount of time.

Can I Return Something That I Washed?

This one is a little hard.

The company’s policy is that items that have been worn or washed cannot be returned.

But if you ask nicely, the manager will often let you bring it back. This is especially true for things that shrank a lot or lost most of their color when they were washed.

To make this happen, you might have to be the loud one.

A word of caution: Know what you’re buying and wash it the way it says on the label so you don’t have to deal with this.

How Do I Return an Online Order?

You can do two things. You can return items in person or through UPS.

In-Store Returns: You don’t have to pay anything to bring online orders back to a store. Just bring the items back to your local TJ Maxx with your receipt, packing slip, or shipping confirmation email.

If you send it back by mail, shipping and handling will cost you $9.99. Make sure UPS brings the item back to TJ Maxx before 30 days are up. If not, you’ll have to settle for a credit for the item. Your first package comes with a label for sending it back.

Note that you can’t get an exact exchange when you send back online orders through the mail. This is because the online stock is always changing.

If you live near a TJ Maxx, it makes sense that you should return items there to avoid the return shipping fee. Only if the item is broken will they not charge the $9.99 fee.

Any Items Not Eligible for a Return?

You can’t get cash back for gift cards, even though you tried.

Purchases made in a store can’t be returned online: Only purchases made online can be sent back through the mail.

What About Returning Items with a Gift Receipt?

If you have a gift receipt, you should know that you can only get store credit or an exact exchange when you return an item.

You won’t get money.

If you do this more than 30 days after buying the item, you’ll have to pay the current price for it. I hope it won’t be on sale because then you’ll have to pay the sale price.
