Macy’s wants their customers to be happy with everything they buy, so they have a returns policy that lets them do this as much as possible. Most things can be returned under several different circumstances.

We want you to love what you buy, but if you aren’t happy, you can send it back by mail or bring it back to a store for free within 90 days.

Here are the conditions. Items returned must still have their original tags and be in good enough shape to sell. Shipping and delivery costs can’t be taken back.

You can return any cosmetics or fragrances you bought at Macy’s that didn’t meet your needs, even if they were new or barely used.

How to make a return

We let you return things for free in-store or by mail. Gift cards, food, gourmet gifts, Beauty Boxes, lamps, wall art, mirrors, furniture, mattresses, and area rugs can’t be returned for free.

International orders do not come with free returns. There is a fee for scheduled return pickup in places that offer the service.

Return to a store

Items bought in a store have to be taken back to the store. Items purchased online can be returned by mail or to a store. Bring the original receipt with you.

No receipt? We can look up your information using the credit card you used to buy something, your return label, packing slip, order or shipping confirmation email, or registry number.

At the moment, we can’t accept returns at the curb.

Return by mail

By mail, you can only send back things you bought online. Start A Return

Please put only the things on your return label in the box. If you have more than one return label, put the items you want to return in different boxes and put the correct return label on each box to ensure you get your refund as soon as possible.

Gift Registry Returns

Gift Registry returns follow the same rules and time limits as other Macy’s returns.

Gift Registry return deadlines (use Registry number as return lookup method) are based on the event date, not the date of purchase, unless the date of purchase comes after the event, in which case the deadline is based on the date of purchase.

How refunds are received

You can request a refund the same way you paid for the item if you still retain the original receipt, the credit card used to make the purchase, the return label, or the packing slip.

It was a gift. You can get a refund through store credit if you have a gift receipt, a return label, or a bridal registry number.

You don’t have any proof that you bought it: You might still be able to get store credit for the lowest price the item has sold for in the last 180 days.

Store credit can be given in the form of an EZ Exchange Card, which can be used online or in-store, just like a Macy’s Gift Card or a Merchandise Certificate (can be used in-store only).

When we get your return, we’ll put the money back into your account(s) within ten business days. It might take a few days for changes to your account to show up.

The amount initially charged to your credit card will be refunded for purchases made with more than one form of payment.

The remaining amount may be sent to your billing address in 2–4 weeks as a Macy’s Happy Returns card or a Merchandise Only Certificate.

Can I return items from a Buy One Get One (BOGO) offer?

Yes, but the amount you get back for each item will be cut proportionally. When you buy items as part of a “Buy One, Get One Free” deal, each eligible item gets a discount based on the price of the lowest-priced item.

If an item is returned, the refund will be the difference between the original price and the amount it was discounted by.

Here are some examples:

Buy One, Get One Free: If you buy two items that qualify, and one costs $30 and the other costs $20, the discount will be $20, which will be split evenly between the two items.

The price of the $30 item will go down by $12, and the price of the $20 item will go down by $8. The refund for the original $30 item will be $18, and the refund for the original $20 item will be $12.

Buy One, Get One 50% Off: If you buy two items that qualify, one costs $30 and the other $20, the discount will be $10, split evenly between the two items.

The item that costs $30 will go down by $6, and the item that costs $20 will go down by $4. The refund for the original $30 item will be $24, and the refund for the original $20 item will be $16.

How store refunds are credited

Once your return gets to the store, your credit will be made right away. If you give us your email address, we will send you an email once we receive your return and process your credit. Depending on how fast your bank works, your credit may take a few days to show up on your account.

Conditions to the 90-Day Return Policy

Apple Products

Apple products can be returned 14 days after they are bought.

Apple products can only be returned to Macy’s stores that sell them. Apple products bought online can be returned by mail or at the store where they were bought.

Area Rugs

Note: Area Rugs will not get their delivery fees and surcharges back. When making a return based on preference, the item must be in its original condition and include the packing materials.

You can only return online-purchased area rugs by mail or at certain Macy’s stores with a Fine Rug Gallery department. To ask for a return, call Customer Service at 800-289-6229 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. EST every day within 30 days of delivery.

Area rugs bought in-store can be returned to The Fine Rug Gallery in certain Macy’s stores up to 30 days after purchase. Call us at 888-241-8288 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, to set up a pickup for your return (pickup fees may apply).

Backstage Merchandise

Within 30 days of the purchase, you can send the item back. Merchandise can only be returned to a Macy’s Backstage location if it hasn’t been worn or changed and still has the original tags. The original receipt must also be current.

Bluemercury Merchandise

Items from Bluemercury can be sent back by mail or taken to a Macy’s with a Bluemercury shop. We can’t take items that were bought at stand-alone Bluemercury stores.

Designer Merchandise

Designer items like Gucci, Longchamp, and Tous can be returned to a Macy’s store with the tags still on them within 14 days of purchase.

  • Custom orders from Alexandre London can’t be returned or exchanged.
  • At Macy’s Herald Square, you can return Burberry items up to 30 days after you buy them, and you can return sale items up to 14 days after you buy them. All returns must have the Burberry tags and, if necessary, the hygiene seal. The original receipt must be included with every return.
  • At Macy’s Herald Square, you can return Louis Vuitton items within 30 days of buying them.

Dresses

  • Dresses can be returned up to 60 days after they were bought.
  • The dress must be in good shape and have tags still on it.
  • Items can’t be returned if worn or changed or if the tags have been removed.

Fine Jewelry, Bridge Jewelry, & Watches

  • Within 60 days of purchase, you can return jewelry and watches with their price tags still on.
  • When jewelry or a watch is returned, it goes through a process of inspection that can take up to 14 business days. After the inspection is done, a credit will be given.
  • You can’t return or exchange items that were made to order or that have been changed to fit.

Finish Line

Items returned to Finish Line must be in their original packaging and in good enough shape to be sold again within 45 days of purchase.

Food Beverage & Live Plants

Food, beverage, and live plants items are not eligible for return or exchange.

Items Shipped and Sold By Sellers

Items sold and shipped by sellers must be returned to the seller directly within 30 days of purchase. When the seller gets the item back, a refund will be made.

You can start a free return online in your purchase history, which will be handled faster than a return in a store. Plants and food can’t be returned.

Last Act Merchandise

Items from Last Act are sold “as is” and are no longer for sale. There are no returns, exchanges, or price changes.

LensCrafters @ Macy’s

You can get a full refund or a new pair of glasses if you send them back within 30 days of the date of dispense, which is the day they arrive at your home or the day you buy them in a store.

Note: If you bought glasses online, you must send them back to the seller directly through the mail. You can’t bring them back to a Macy’s store.

Lighting

Customers who want to return lights because they don’t like them can do so within 30 days of receiving them by calling Customer Service at 800-289-6229.

  • It must be in its original condition and come in its original box
  • Cannot be taken back to the store or furniture galleries
  • Shipping costs and extra fees won’t be refunded.
  • 15% of the price will be charged for restocking.

Locker Room By Lids Merchandise

Any Macy’s store will take back items within 90 days of the purchase date. Items from Last Act are sold “as is” and are no longer for sale. There are no returns, exchanges, or price changes.

Macy’s Beauty Box Items

Macy’s Beauty Box merchandise is not eligible for return or exchange.

Maternity

Sure Maternity Brands: Items bought online can only be sent back to the seller by mail. Items can’t be taken back to Macy’s. Returns are accepted up to 30 days after the date of purchase, and the item must still have the tags on it. Items can’t be returned if worn or changed or if the tags have been removed.

Personal Care Items & Small Electrics

The item must be returned within 60 days of purchase in its original packaging and in good enough shape to be sold again.

Sunglass Hut

Sunglass Hut lets you return items in their original condition up to 90 days after you buy them.

Tech Accessories

Within 14 days of the purchase, you can send the item back. To get a refund, tech accessories must be returned with all their packaging and parts.

You can’t return or exchange items that were made to order or that have been changed to fit.

Tech Watches

After 30 days, you can return tech watches with their original tags and packaging.

You can’t return or exchange items that were made to order or that have been changed to fit.

Toys
