There’s no set time for the return.

Most of the things you buy from American Eagle can be returned, and there’s no set time limit on when that can happen.

American Eagle Store Return Policy

You can return items from AE, Aerie, and Tailgate to any of the locations because American Eagle has a fairly lenient return policy. Here, we step-by-step describe the return method.

Check to determine if your goods comply with the standards after receiving your invoice or order confirmation.

Simply take the product to any AE, Aerie, or Tailgate store in your area after verifying sure it qualifies and ensuring you have the following:
You received a copy of your invoice or the email that verified your order.

You made a purchase with a credit card (bring the original form of payment).

Additionally, you can contact the store’s customer care counter to swap or return an item within minutes, and you’ll receive a refund in the form of the original payment.

Return + Exchange Policy

You can simply return an item for a refund if you’re dissatisfied with it. Returns that include a copy of the original receipt, invoice, order confirmation page, order details page, or order email will be repaid in the same manner. If you don’t have a receipt, we’ll let you swap it or get store credit at the going rate.

We’ll refund the difference if you’re charged more than what’s stated or represented. If it appears that there was fraud or abuse, we might choose not to return your item.

We are unable to accept a swimsuit or bikini bottom back if the sanitary lining has been removed after purchase.

In-store returns + exchanges

Any AE, Aerie, or Tailgate store in the United States will accept your returns or exchanges without charge.

Please present your credit card, as well as a receipt, invoice, order confirmation page, order details page, or order email, as proof of purchase.

You will receive an AE gift card for the item’s current price if you don’t have confirmation that you purchased it.

Please be aware that shipping charges cannot be reimbursed if you had the items shipped to you.

Returns + exchanges by mail

You can also ship items back to us if you ordered them online or through the AE Live app. If you can, send them back in the same box they came in.

We can’t do mail-in exchanges right now. You can put in a new order for an updated item and send the return back to us in a separate package.

Furthermore, through our online portal, you can tell us which items you want to send back and print your shipping label.

If your order qualified for free returns, you can use this label to send your items back at no extra cost.

Even if your order didn’t qualify for free returns, you can still get a label to send your items back. Shipping costs will be paid for by a $5 fee that will be taken out of your refund.

Additionally, if you suspect someone is attempting to steal from you or if you receive a call from someone purporting to be from AEO regarding your purchase or return, refrain from disclosing any information, terminate the call, and reach out to Customer Service via Contact Us.

If AEO contacts you about a return, we won’t give you order or personal information ahead of time, ask you to install software, or ask for your bank account information to process the return.

We may, however, ask for some information to make sure you are who you say you are.

When will I receive my refund?

If you ordered something online and are sending it back to us by mail, please give us 2–4 weeks to get it. When it arrives, you’ll get an email telling you that your refund is being worked on. After the refund is started, it will take between 5 and 7 business days to finish.

Is there a time limit on returns?

Furthermore, there is no time limit for issuing a full refund, initiating a chargeback to a credit card, facilitating an exchange, or providing an AE Gift Card.

How do I exchange an item?

What qualifies for an even exchange?

For an even exchange, the item must be the same color and style. If you change the color, style, or size, your replacement item may have a different price or be included in a different promotion.

Can I return an order I purchased with Afterpay?

Furthermore, if you paid for something with Afterpay, the amount you get back will be based on how much you’ve already paid. Afterpay will send you an email with information about your refund and the end of your payment plan.

The tax, shipping costs, and condition of the item will affect how much you get back.

What do I do If I suspect fraudulent activity?

If you think your account has been hacked or you’re worried about a call from someone claiming to be from AEO about your purchase or return, please hang up the phone and contact Customer Service at Contact Us.

To demonstrate our recognition of your identity, when American Eagle contacts you regarding a return, we will refrain from disclosing your order number or other personal details beforehand.

We may ask you to confirm details about your order or your personal information to make sure you are who you say you are.

American Eagle will never ask you to install software on your device in order to return something or get a refund.

American Eagle will never ask for information about your bank account, but depending on your needs, they may ask you to confirm certain payment card information.

Can I return my AE Live order?

Can I still return items if I lost my receipt/invoice? Does my email confirmation count as an invoice?

What if my items are damaged?

How Many Return Days Does American Eagle Allow?

Surprisingly, American Eagle Outfitters doesn’t have a set time limit for returns.

When I asked an AE chat rep if this was because of COVID-19, they said that they have never set a deadline for returns.

Can Clothing Be Worn?

If you want to return something, you can’t have worn it.

This doesn’t mean you can’t try the item on at home and wear it around for a little while. Just don’t take the tags off and wear it to work or to the bar (for example).

What If I Lost My Receipt?

If you lose your American Eagle receipt, it’s not the end of the world.

You can still make a fair trade or get store credit.

Remember that they will need more than just a receipt to prove that you bought something. The invoice, the order confirmation page, the order details page, and the order emails all work, too.

Do Items Need Tags On Them?

You can still return an item even if you take the tags off but don’t wear it.

But if you take off the tags and throw them away, then try to return the item (even if you haven’t worn it), you might have trouble.

What If Items Have Never Been Worn But Tag Has Been Removed?

I asked the chat person this exact question, and she said, “It’s up to the manager.”

So if you can, you should try to keep the tag on.

What Price Will Be Refunded to Me?

If I return something that hasn’t been worn but is more than a year old, you might be wondering how much I’ll get back.

When I asked AE this question directly, they told me, “The price you bought it for.”

It seems that this is true even if the item is no longer in stock.

This seems too good to be true, so I’d like to hear what my readers think.

Most of the time, you’re stuck with the item’s lowest price in the last year or six months.

Can I Return Online Purchases In-Store?

Just bring in your order confirmation email or online bill to show that you bought something.

If not, it looks like a $5 fee will be taken out of your refund to cover the cost of shipping.

Whether you used a debit card or a credit card to pay for your return, it usually takes between 5 and 7 business days for the money to show up in your account.

From what I’ve learned, there seems to be only one exception, which is…

If you take the hygiene liner out of a swimsuit or bikini bottom, you CANNOT return the item.
