DSW can’t take back or exchange items bought from any of its stores in Canada or from www.dsw.ca. Visit www.dsw.ca or get in touch with the local DSW Canada store from which you made your purchase if you’d like to know more about returning or exchanging an item you bought.

Other than items marked “FINAL SALE,” you can return items to a U.S. DSW store or dsw.com for any reason within 90 days of the original purchase date to get a full refund using the same method of payment you used to buy the items (including PayPal).

* To get a refund in the same way you paid for the item, it must be unworn, in the original packaging, and accompanied by the original sales receipt or shipping invoice.

Some other rules and conditions that apply to returns and exchanges of goods are:

  • If you return something after 90 days and have the original sales receipt or shipping invoice, you will get a merchandise credit, no matter how you paid for it in the first place.
  • If you make an exchange within 60 days and have the original sales receipt or shipping invoice, you will get a credit on the same form of payment you used to pay for the item.
  • If you want to exchange something after 60 days, you will get a merchandise credit for the difference.
  • Gifted items can be returned or swapped for something else. If you return or exchange something at dsw.com, any money you get back will be put on the original form of payment. If you return or exchange something in store, any money you get back will be put on a store credit.
  • If you paid with PayPal, you should make the exchange in person if you can. Representatives at the shoephoria! center are not allowed to log into customers’ PayPal accounts to buy something new.
  • If a purchase was made with both PayPal and a gift card, the entire refund will be put on a gift card.
  • If you return something you bought with DSW Rewards or an offer, you will only get the final price back. Rewards and offers cannot be reissued or refunded, unless they are exchanged on the same day they were bought.
  • You can return items you bought on dsw.com to a DSW store, but you can’t return items you bought in a DSW store to dsw.com.
  • If you want to return something without the original sales receipt or shipping invoice, you will get a credit for the same amount as the item’s current selling price. DSW may limit the number of returns that can be made without an original sales receipt or shipping invoice. All returns without the original sales receipt or shipping invoice must be accompanied by a valid ID. This could be a driver’s license, passport, military ID, or state-issued photo ID card.
  • Items bought as part of a “Buy One Get One Free” (BOGO) deal can be returned or exchanged. When you return or exchange BOGO items, you’ll get a refund or an exchange based on how the BOGO discount was applied at the time of purchase.
  • Some of the things for sale at DSW are marked “FINAL SALE.” Items that say “FINAL SALE” can’t be changed or returned for any reason.
  • Fragrances, dry shampoos, nail polish, facial care products, products with alcohol, rechargeable batteries, and USB rechargeable devices are FINAL SALE and cannot be returned or exchanged once they have been opened or the original packaging or seal has been broken or removed.
  • Any DSW store will take back unopened specialty products in their original packaging with the seal still in place.
  • You can’t send back Specialty Products to dsw.com.
  • DSW has the right to limit the number of returns or exchanges, no matter when the item was bought.

Final Sale

Final Sale items cannot be returned or exchanged.

Returns And Exchanges To Dsw.com

  • Enter your order number and email address here to start your return or exchange.
  • In the online portal, you can choose the item you want to return or exchange and why you want to do so.
  • Use a label that has already been paid for and drop it off at any FedEx location.
  • If your order qualified for free returns, you can use this label to send your items back at no extra cost.
  • If your order didn’t qualify for free returns, you can still use this label to send the item back. To cover shipping costs, $8.50 will be taken out of your refund.
  • After you drop off your return or exchange at FedEx, you will get an email with tracking information.


Please allow 7-10 business days to process your return and credit any funds on your original form of payment.


If you choose to exchange your item through the online portal, your new item will be sent to you as soon as DSW knows that FedEx has received your exchange. You won’t have to pay for shipping, and when your new item ships, you’ll get a confirmation email with tracking information.

Once DSW hears that FedEx has received your return package, the items you want to exchange will be sent to you.

If the exchanged item is not returned unworn, in its original packaging, and with the original sales receipt or shipping invoice, you will be charged for both the original purchase and the exchange.

You can only do an exchange if you want to buy the same thing in a different size or color. If you want to exchange for something else, please follow the steps for returns and place a new order.

Exchange Via Mail

DSW handles exchanges the same way as returns and sends out the new item again. Simply put, you will be charged for the item you exchanged and given a credit for the one you brought back.

Just follow the steps above and write “replacement” on the package. Your job is done.

If the exchange is made within 60 days, any difference between the old and new products will be put back into the same form of payment that was used to buy them.

This would be given back in the form of store credit after 60 days. You will only get a gift card in exchange for a gift, nothing else.

Paypal Returns

PayPal payments would be refunded in the same way they were made. The difference is in how the goods are traded.

People who use PayPal can’t exchange money through the mail. You can only take things back to a store.

The simple answer is that DSW employees are not allowed to use your PayPal account to buy something new.

If you bought something with a combination of PayPal and a gift card, you would get a merchandise credit for the full amount.


Some items can’t be returned to DSW for a refund or exchange. Here’s a list of those items.

  • Worn out products
  • Final Sales items
  • Specialty items like perfumes, dry shampoos, nail polish, skin care products, alcohol-based products, rechargeable batteries, and USB rechargeable devices

If you bought something online, you can send it back to DSW as long as it gets to the warehouse within 60 days.

What Happens After 60 Days?

What If I Lost My DSW Receipt?

You still have a choice, which is good.

You can bring the item in and get a credit that you can use on your next purchase.

This policy seemed too good to be true, so I started a chat with DSW to make sure this information was correct.

Can I Wear the Shoes (Test Them Out) Before Returning Them?

I also asked this question to a DSW employee, and I was surprised by their answer, which was that shoes must be “unworn.”

The representative told me, “We’ll take them back if you haven’t worn them too much” (as far as testing them out.) We just won’t take a pair that is already worn, if that makes sense. If you got a pair that wasn’t right, we’d make it right for you!”

So, I took that to mean that you can try on the shoes all day at home and still send them back for free.

If you wear them outside for a long time and damage the soles, they might not let you return them.

What If I’m Returning a Gift?

When you return a gift, you’ll have to settle for a credit that you can use to buy something else in the future.

Also, if you return something you bought with a DSW Rewards certificate, you’ll only get the final price back.

What About Canadian Orders?

You can’t return orders made at a DSW store or website in Canada to a store or website in the United States.
