Old Navy return policy lets you swap online purchases for free by mail or in-store. Read Old Navy return policy and send it back.

When we don’t want anything, we ask these questions.

Furthermore, washing or wearing an item may prevent a return or exchange, and a packing slip or receipt is required for all returns or exchanges within Old Navy’s 45-day window.

Online shoppers can print a return label from the store’s website. Same-box packing is required.

If the tags are still on the item, the consumer may be able to return it for store credit.

Returning or Exchanging Items

We hope you like what you bought, but if you don’t, we’re happy to take a new order or give you your money back. When you use a prepaid return shipping label (only for online purchases) or return in-store, returns and exchanges are free.

Furthermore, at Athleta, you have up to 60 days from the date of shipment to return or exchange items by mail, while at Gap, Old Navy, and the Banana Republic, you have up to 30 days from the date of shipment to do the same.

Items from Gap, Old Navy, or the Banana Republic that require a return or exchange must be sent back to us within 30 days of the shipping date (60 days for Athleta). Additionally, on our Return Policy FAQ page, you can find all the necessary information regarding how to return an item.

To Return Items by Mail

1. Identify items and create mailing label

To get started with your return, use our interactive returns process to make and print a UPS label that is already paid for.

2. Prepare your package

  • Returns must be securely packaged, preferably in the original packaging & accompanied by the original packing slip (generated via the interactive returns process).
  • Attach your shipping label to the package and ensure no other tracking labels are visible.

3. Ship it

When your package is ready, drop it off at your nearest UPS location.

 What happens next?

The cost of the returned item is refunded as soon as we process it. When the return is done, you’ll get an email to let you know. Refunds are given back the same way they were paid for, like on the credit card used to place the order.

If the refund is put on your credit card, furthermore, it could take up to 10 more business days for your credit card company to post the refund to your account.

Note: We do not accept C.O.D. deliveries; therefore, if you opt not to use our pre-paid shipping label, you will be responsible for covering the shipping costs. We also don’t give back the original shipping and handling costs.

To Exchange Items by Mail

1. Get in touch with us to order a replacement. This ensures you get the item you want and get credit for any discounts you may have used. (Must you first find the right thing? Start looking around.)

2. Follow the “To return items by mail” steps above to send the item back.

What happens next?

We put the cost of your replacement item on your credit card and ship it for free.

As soon as we get your returned item, we put the purchase price back on the original payment method, like a credit card. If the refund is placed on your credit card, it could take up to 10 more business days for your credit card company to post the refund to your account.

To Return or Exchange Items in a Store

Items from Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Athleta can be returned to the store where they were bought. For example you can produce something you purchased on Gap.com to a Gap store but not to an Old Navy store.

Our Factory and Outlet stores can’t take back items that were bought online. For instance, you can’t return the Banana Republic online purchase to a Banana Republic Factory store.

Note: Items that say “Mail only” must be sent back by mail. First, look at the email that confirms your order.

Do the following:

1. Find out where a store is near you.

2. Bring the item to the store in the package it came in, along with either your shipping confirmation email (printed or on your phone) OR the credit card you used to buy it.

3. Tell someone working in the store that you want to return the item.

Make sure to tell the salesperson that you are returning a gift. See “Returning or exchanging a gift” for more information.

To Return or Exchange Items Purchased from More than One Brand

You can buy things from Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic & Athleta all at once, and it’s just as easy to send them back.

Let’s say you need to return a pair of pants from Gap and a shirt from Old Navy that you bought together and had delivered in the same package.

For a return: put both items in the same box in their original packaging and use our interactive returns process to make a prepaid UPS shipping label and packing slip.

For an exchange: To request a replacement, please get in touch with the brand’s order line (details can be found under “Contact Us”) before sending back the original item (or items).

By doing so, you increase your likelihood of receiving the desired replacement and ensure that any discounts you used are properly credited. Furthermore, please refer to the section “To exchange items by mail” above for more details on how to perform an exchange.

Ensure your packing slip is there (generated via the interactive returns process). You should also write down your delivery tracking number to find it again.

Returning or exchanging a gift

Did you get a gift that doesn’t fit, or is it the wrong colour? We can help you return it or exchange it for a gift card for the same amount you paid for it. When you use our prepaid return shipping label it’s free to return or exchange a gift.

Our Options gift cards are versatile and can be utilized both in-store and online at Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Athleta.

Note: When you return a gift card, the value is put back on the original payment method, such as the credit card.

To return a gift by mail

1. Get the gift invoice ready
  • Check the “Gift” box.
  • Write the number of each item you’re returning and the reason code in the columns to the right of each item.
  • Write the name and address of the person you want the gift card sent to in a clear place on the page.
  • Furthermore, cut off the top of the bill and retain it for your records.

2. Find or create your shipping label

Look for a return label that has already been paid for in the delivery package. Do one of the following if there isn’t one:

  • Verify whether there is a prepaid label included in the package for returning the item. If one is not included, you can either utilize our interactive returns process or contact Customer Service for assistance.

3. Package your items securely

  • Place your completed bill inside the box. If the container it arrived in can be used.
  • Glue the mailing label to the package. Ensure no other branding are visible.

So that you can locate your tracking number again, write it down.

4. Ship the package

When your package is ready drop it off at the nearest UPS location.

The cost of the returned item is refunded as soon as we process it. You’ll be given an Options gift card in place of the money.

Items from Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Athleta can be returned to the store where they were bought. For example, if you got a gift from Gap.com, you can take it back to a Gap store but not an Old Navy store.

Which items are eligible to be returned or exchanged?

Additionally, items that are not in their original state will not be accepted for return or exchange. However, items that are broken or not working correctly can be sent back or exchanged at any time. It should be noted that items on final sale cannot be returned or changed.

Extended holiday returns policy

Items bought online or in stores between October 24, and December 24 can be returned by January 15, or 30 days from the date of shipment for online purchases or the date of purchase in stores, whichever is later.

If you have purchased something online and wish to return it by mail, it must be received at our facility by January 15 or within 30 days of shipment, whichever comes first.In addition, please allow the mail 5-7 days to return to you. Please note that there must be proof of purchase.

Notes

  1. Items that say “mail only” on the product page, in your shopping bag, or on the invoice can only be returned by mail.
  2. The original price tags and hygienic liners must still be on swimwear.
  3. Within 30 days of the shipping date, you can return new sunglasses as long as you have the original receipt and the free case with the tags. Sunglasses that are broken can be returned at any time.
  4. Masks can’t be returned or exchanged, and you can’t get your money back.

How long do I have to return or exchange an item I bought online?

Returns/exchanges must be received within 30 days of ship date.

How can I receive a refund for my order?

In order to receive a refund, it is necessary to provide evidence of purchase. This can include documentation such as the shipping confirmation email or the credit card that was used to make the purchase.

I received an item as a gift. How can I receive a refund?

If a gift is returned with a gift receipt or invoice, you will receive a gift card for the amount paid. However, if a gift is returned without a gift receipt or invoice, a gift certificate will be sent to the customer by mail with the current selling price.

Can online items be returned in a store?

Yes, unless the item says “Mail Only” or was bought through Shopify, Instagram or Facebook.

Can store items be returned by mail?

No.

Are there limitations on returning specific merchandise?

Swimwear and Masks. Final sale items cannot be returned or exchanged.

Can I return or exchange items from one brand in a different brand’s store?

If you want to return or exchange something at one of our stores, you must do so at a store that sells the same brand as the item you bought. So, if you purchased something from Gap.com you can’t take it back to an Old Navy store.

I am interested in purchasing an item that is marked as “Final Sale” on the website, or I have just purchased an item that is marked as “Final Sale.” What does that mean?

Final Sale items cannot be returned or exchanged by mail or in stores.

I would like to return an item that I bought with rewards earned from a Gap Inc Credit Card / Rewards Program. What happens to my rewards?

Suppose you return something you bought with Reward Points. In that case, the dollar value of the reward(s) for that item(s) will be converted to Reward Points and added to your Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, or Athleta account within the subsequent two billing cycles.

If you didn’t use your account or if your account is closed, the dollar value of the Reward Point(s) assigned to the item(s) returned will not be refunded or credited. Returns depend on the store’s return and exchange policies. There may also be some additional rules.

Can you return Old Navy without receipt?

How To Return Something Without a Receipt
  1. The credit card you used to purchase the item.
  2. A bank statement showing the specific date of the purchase.
  3. The original packaging.

When did the gap change their return policy to 30 days?

Gap used to give 45 days to return something, but in June of 2022, they changed it to just 30 days. Make sure you try things on and don’t leave your new Gap clothes in the bag on the floor of your closet.
