But what if you don’t like the thing you just bought at Marshalls? There’s nothing to worry about because our guide to Marshalls’s return policy will help you make an easy return.

Marshalls’ return policy says that customers can send back items within 30 days of when they bought them. You can return something with or without a receipt. Marshalls’ return policy, on the other hand, makes it hard to return used or worn items that aren’t in good enough shape to sell.

Holiday Return Policy for Items Purchased in Stores

Between October 1st and December 31st may you can return purchases January 31st, 2024

All purchases made after 12/31/2024 will be subject to our normal return policy.

Within 30 days of buying something in-store, you can take it back to any open Marshalls store.

Local, state, and federal laws always affect how we handle returns.

Our standard Return Policy applies to everything else.

Standard Return Policy for Items Purchased in Stores

Our customers are still the most important thing to us. If you’re not happy with what you bought, you can return it with the register receipt within 30 days and get an exchange or a refund in the same way you paid.

For a cash refund on a check purchase, you have to wait 10 days. Returns with a receipt that is more than 30 days old, returns with a gift receipt, or returns without a receipt will only get merchandise credit.

Additionally, merchandise credits are subject to the Terms and Conditions that are printed on them and that the issuer puts in place, which may limit how they can be used.

In addition, for swimwear and intimate clothing returns, tickets must be properly attached to the items. Furthermore, there may be other rules. Used, worn, or broken items that cannot be refunded, exchanged, or put back on the shelf will not be accepted.

Fraudulent returns happen at a lot of stores, which is a shame. Our refund verification systems, which are used to process and keep track of returns to help us run our loss prevention program, can also limit or stop returns.

For returns without receipts, you need a valid government-issued photo ID, your name, address, and signature. You may also need these things to use the credit for merchandise.

If you show a photo ID, the name on the merchandise credit must match the name on the ID, or you cannot use the merchandise credit.

For receipted returns, the customer may also need to sign. Please read our Privacy Notice to find out how we use and handle the information you give us.

Depending on the size and/or weight of the item, there may be a shipping surcharge on top of the normal delivery and processing costs for items that are too big.

We cannot refund shipping and handling costs, as well as shipping surcharges. Please keep your receipt so that your return is faster and easier.

Please note that you can only return items bought at a Marshalls store to a Marshalls store, as stated in this return policy.

Items bought at Marshalls can’t be taken back to T.J. Maxx or any of our other stores that are part of the same family.

Holiday Return Policy for Items Purchased Online

Standard Return Policy

Not what you were looking for? Not a problem. In-store returns are free, and sending them back by mail is so easy.

If you’re not happy with something you bought online, don’t be afraid to send it back within 40 days, unless the packing slip says otherwise.

Either your receipt or your shipping confirmation email will work for a return. Your receipt is the packing slip that comes with your order.

Check to see if the item you want to return is eligible for a return before you send it back. Some items may be final sale or subject to other return restrictions.

Also, make sure to read the terms for the way you want to send the item back (either by mail or in store).

According to this return policy, items bought on marshalls.com can only be sent back to a Marshalls store or to the online warehouse for Marshalls. Items bought at marshalls.com can’t be taken back to T.J. Maxx or any of our other stores.

Returning by Mail

You can send a return by mail as long as it gets to our warehouse within 40 days of the date you placed your order. For a simple mail-in return, use the return shipping label on your receipt.

A $10.99 return shipping and handling fee will be deducted from your refund or store credit. Then, drop off your package at the shipping carrier listed on your return label.

Make sure your package has your receipt or a copy of your shipping confirmation email. If a return gets to the warehouse more than 40 days after the date of the original order, the customer will get a credit for the item.

You can bring your online purchase to a Marshalls store near you to avoid paying to ship and handle the return.

Returning in Store

Store returns, which are also limited in the ways listed above, can be made within 40 days of the date of your order. If you can return your purchase in a store, bring the item(s) and your receipt or shipping confirmation email to the Store Location nearest you.

For any return in store, you have to sign for it. If you don’t have a receipt, you’ll need a valid photo ID from the government, your name, address, and signature. See our Privacy Policy to find out how we use and handle the information you give us.

Issuance of Refunds

All refunds will be given back to the original method of payment or in the form of a merchandise credit.

With a receipt, packing slip, or shipping confirmation email within 40 days of the date of your order, you can get your money back or a credit on your account.

A receipt, packing slip, or shipping confirmation email that is more than 40 days after the date of your order, you can get a credit for the item.

With a gift receipt, you can get credit for items.

If you don’t have a receipt, packing slip, or shipping confirmation email, you can get a credit for the merchandise.

When you return items that you bought with a Marshalls Gift Card, you will get a merchandise credit. You can use this credit at any Marshalls store.

Shipping and handling fees for returns are not refundable unless the item is broken.

In Store Issued Merchandise Credit Terms

Merchandise credits are subject to the Terms and Conditions that are printed on them and that the issuer puts in place, which may limit how they can be used.

For returns without receipts, you need a valid government-issued photo ID, your name, address, and signature. You may also need these things to use the credit for merchandise.

If a photo ID is shown, the name on the merchandise credit must match the name on the ID, or the merchandise credit cannot be used.

Refund Processing Time

If you send your return by mail, your account will usually be credited within 10 to 14 business days, depending on your bank and/or billing cycle, after we receive your eligible Marshalls.com return.

When we get back returns of eligible items, we’ll give merchandise credits.

When you return something in store, you’ll get a refund in the same way you paid for it or a store credit right away. Please keep in mind that it could take a few days for your bank to put the money back in your account.

PayPal Returns

Store: If you bought something with PayPal and want to return it to a Marshalls store, you will get a merchandise credit.

By Mail: If you return a PayPal purchase by mail, you will get a charge credit, less the $10.99 shipping and handling fee for the return.

Apple Pay® Returns

At the register, customers will need to show a receipt or email confirmation that shows Apple as a form of payment.

If the customer can’t give either, refunds should be done the way they are now.

The store employee will ask the customer if they still have the credit card they used with Apple Pay.

If the customer has the credit card that was used to pay with Apple Pay, the salesperson can put the money back on that card.

Additionally, if the customer doesn’t have the credit card that was used for the Apple Pay purchase, the employee will do what they normally do and send the refund to any card.

Exceptions & Special Instructions

Online, you can’t return things you bought in a store.
Used, worn, or broken items that can’t be sold won’t be accepted for a refund or merchandise credit.

Items over $1,000 are not eligible for in store return

Return an Online Purchase at a Store

Unless otherwise stated on the packing slip, you can return items purchased online to a store for free within 40 days of the order date. Please note that you can only return items bought on marshalls.com to a Marshalls store.

To complete a return in store you will need to provide

Your packing slip/receipt or your email confirmation of shipment.

If you don’t have a receipt, you will need to give your name, address, and a valid photo ID from the government.

Additionally, items sent back by mail will be refunded in full if they arrive at our warehouse within 40 days of the date of your order and have a packing slip or receipt.

Note that there is a $10.99 return shipping and handling fee that will be taken out of your refund unless the item is broken. You can bring your online purchase to a Marshalls store near you to avoid paying to ship and handle the return.

Returns with a receipt that is more than 30 days old, returns with a gift receipt, or returns without a receipt will only get merchandise credit. Please note that you can only return items bought at a Marshalls store to a Marshalls store.

How Many Return Days Does Marshalls Offer?

Just bring back the items within 30 days and you’ll get a full refund back to the way you paid for them.

Do I Need My Receipt to Return Stuff?

YES, you will need your receipt unless you want store credit.

If you don’t have your receipt, you’ll have to settle for store credit for the item’s current price.

The same is true for returns that have a receipt and are older than 30 days.

If you still have the receipt and it’s been 31–45 days since you bought the item, the manager will often let you return it. So be kind and always give it a shot, because you have a good chance of succeeding.

If I Have My Receipt Do I Need My Credit Card?

When I called Marshalls and asked about this, I was told, “Yes, the credit card has to be there in order for money to be put back on it.”

Can Items Be Worn or Used?

Marshalls are making a strict rule, so there’s not much room for error.

We will not take back anything that looks used, worn, or “unsellable.”

Any Exceptions to the 30 Days?

There are a few important exceptions to the return policy:

Gift Cards: Not eligible for a return.

If you have opened or tampered with beauty items, you cannot return them.

Handbags: You can’t return a handbag you bought for more than $499.99 in-store. You can talk about your options with Marshalls by calling 888-627-7425.

Long-occasion dresses: You can’t take them back to the store.

Stuff Over $1,000 in value: Not eligible for an in-store return. Call the number above to find out what choices you have.

Items with No Returns: What’s that? You can’t give them back. If you don’t want them, you can sell them on eBay.

Swimwear and underwear can still be returned within 30 days, but the original price tag must still be on the item for it to be returned.

What About Online Purchases?

If you buy something online from Marshalls, you have an extra 10 days to return it.

You can return things to the Marshalls near you or by mail.

Be sure to bring your receipt or shipping confirmation email with you when you go back to the store. You should also know that your packing slip is also your receipt.

Use the return shipping label that came with your package and follow the instructions to send it back by mail.

Additionally, be aware that if you return something by mail, you will be charged $9.99, and it will take 10–14 business days for your account to be credited.

Because of this, you should always go back to the store if you can.

Moreover, we will refund all online purchases back to the same payment method used for the original transaction.

What About a Return to a No Longer Available Credit Card?

Someone in the comments asked me this question, so I called Marshalls to find out the answer.

Someone told me that they usually give store credit, but some managers do provide cash back.

So asking for cash won’t hurt, but be ready to get store credit.

Can I Return Gifts Without a Gift Receipt?

Yes, but you’ll have to take store credit at the item’s current selling price OR an even trade.

Again, you can’t wear or use the items.

What Happens When My Original Payment Method Was a Check?

If you want a cash refund, you have to wait 10 days for your check to clear the bank.

Can My Return Be Turned Down?

Marshalls can turn down your return if they think you are abusing their return policy.

Most of the time, this happens when you make too many returns without a receipt.

So that their policy doesn’t get abused, they keep track of every return.

What If I Paid via PayPal?

If you bought something in a store with PayPal, you’ll have to settle for store credit when you want to return it.

If you paid for something online with PayPal, your refund will be a charge-back credit to your PayPal account, less a shipping and handling fee of $9.99.
